1. I hear the rain falling and I'm asleep. It's 5am and the sheets need to be brought in. When it's daylight I give them a rinse, worried that the lovely detergent smell will fade. It doesn't and I still have lovely sheets.

Sound, scent and clean

1. A silent room. Under the covers because it's cold.

2. I'm out of cash and I'm suppose to pay for my takeaway lunch. Before I go upstairs to my apartment to desperately find some secret stash I check my wallet once again and come up with enough money in coins.

3. A conversation with Dad that moves from interstate travel to the economy to the state of local politics.

1. I'm stuck at the coffee shop after I'm done with my meal because it's pouring. The cook tells me they have an umbrella I can borrow.

Briller, skin and nerds.

1. I talk about the limitations that I place on myself - because of how I want my life to turn out there are certain sacrifices that I know I will have to make - and I say I want to be brilliant. I am promptly told that I already am.

2. Paying attention in my least favourite tutorial and remembering things I learnt back in first year.

1. I slowly awake and I'm met by the most beautiful sight.

2. I've been doing the housework for hours but now it's all done and I have the rest of the night to myself.

1. Wanting the same thing, coming together to achieve it.

2. I expect a smile but get a scrunched up nose instead.

3. The friendly security guard at my apartment who left his job not too long ago (causing much personal distress) reappears as an attendant at the hotel next door. "Better pay and better benefits" he says. When we recognise him in the lobby we smile and stop to chat.

3. Family from Singapore over for dinner. A little cousin who thinks his name is "banana". I'm going to teach him his new name - "orange".

Geek-out, another one on the list and over chai.

1. Geeking out the whole day with Battlestar Galactica.

2. Cat comes over and she tells me her glorious news.

3. Dinner is at my grandfather's cousin's house. We eat good food and talk about long lost family members. It all ends in chai.
